Guy Carpenter hires students as Risk Analyst Interns, Actuarial Analyst Interns and Catastrophe Modeling Analyst Interns between their junior and senior years in college. Risk Analyst Interns work in broking operations, while Actuarial Analyst Interns and Catastrophe Modeling Analyst Interns focus on quantitative analysis, as part of the firm's renowned Instrat unit.

Job Summary Risk Analyst Interns focus primarily on client account management. They assist account teams with the analysis and evaluation of data and needs, in addition to related projects that support client reinsurance programs. Actuarial Analyst Interns work with other actuaries, catastrophe modelers and brokers to assist in the delivery of actuarial and financial modeling services to clients. Catastrophe Modeling Analyst Interns assist in the analysis of client exposure data by applying it against catastrophe simulation models. The resulting loss estimates enable brokers to construct effective reinsurance programs for clients.
Types of Duties Include:
  • Assisting account teams in managing new, renewal and prospective business, including research assistance
  • Conducting financial analyses
  • Gaining a working knowledge of accounting, claims and contract-related issues
  • Working with models that examine alternative forms of risk financing
  • Assisting with the interpretation and analysis of client underwriting information
  • Learning to use tools to price and evaluate reinsurance structures
  • Assisting in responding to client inquiries and concerns; resolving issues promptly
  • Assisting with the gathering and preparation of exposure data for client projects
  • Analyzing changes in exposure and the impact of catastrophe model results
  • Modeling probability distributions
  • Analyzing how results and risk measures change with the application of proposed reinsurance alternatives
