New York, July 14, 2025 – Guy Carpenter, a leading global risk and reinsurance specialist and a business of Marsh McLennan, today announced the appointment of Richard Hakes as the new Global Head of Marine, Energy and Technical Lines (METL). Mr. Hakes will join the Global Specialities Leadership team and will report to James Boyce, CEO Global Specialties.
In this role, Mr. Hakes will be responsible for leading the global METL team of nearly 100 colleagues. He will drive the continued success of the METL platform, delivering deep analytics and risk transfer solutions for Guy Carpenter’s METL client base around the world.
Mr. Hakes brings a wealth of experience to the role with more than 20 years in the industry,13 of which are with Guy Carpenter. He previously led Guy Carpenter’s International Marine business, successfully developing the client offering to be a market leading marine and energy platform.
Alongside Richard, the METL Leadership Team will comprise of Simon Liley (Deputy Global Head of METL), Brian Stroop (Global Specialties Leader for North America and Head of US – METL), and Nick Jay (Chairman of METL).
