In this interview with Insurance Asia News connected with the 2024 Singapore International Reinsurance Conference, Guy Carpenter’s Hussain Ahmad, Head of Structured Solutions, Asia Pacific, described how structured solutions are helping bridge gaps between insurers’ risk appetites and reinsurers’ interest in higher retentions.

“Structured solutions are broadly assisting reinsurers in 3 key strategic areas: capital management; efficient management of volatility, particularly in the lower layers of excess of loss programs; and market entry and exit strategy support,” Hussain said. “There is significant demand for support in these areas across Asia Pacific.”

Hussain goes on to mention that the level of understanding of the capital or volatility benefits of reinsurance is evolving and varies throughout the region.

“Guy Carpenter has been at the forefront of educating market participants, and we see a bright future, as industry awareness grows with these solutions,” he explained.
