In this interview with Business Insurance, Amit Parmar, Managing Director, discusses his recent report, EVs tend to crash less than petrol cars, indicating how differences between EVs and petrol vehicles affect severity trends.
“Regenerative braking is a feature of EVs, which means the impact is less. They have a different physical makeup – batteries are at the bottom of the car, which means there is less rollover risk. The engine cluster at the front of the car is smaller, so that means there is more room for crumple zones, which effectively means that at contact, there is less collision impact with the drivers, passengers and third parties,” Amit explained.
“When you put this together, you can see that small claims, the damages, are going up. But the big claims – the injury costs – are going down, effectively reducing the tail risk and reshaping the severity curve.”
